Slope of sides of corneal grafts and recipient beds.

چکیده
IF a corneal graft is not properly coapted to its bed, a series of complications may ensue. These have been summarized by Barraquer (1950). A cause of this lack of coaptation is that the sides of the graft or of the bed may not be vertical, and that if sloping they may not slope in similar directions. A series of simple tests were therefore carried out to determine: (a) The direction of the sides of the graft and how to influence it by the method of cutting the graft. (b) The direction of the sides of the bed and how to influence it by the method of preparing the bed.

متن کاملFate of orthotopic corneal allografts in eyes that cannot support anterior chamber-associated immune deviation induction.
PURPOSE Corneal allografts placed in human eyes at high risk often fail, and immune rejection is thought to be a major pathogenic factor. To understand the immunologic factors responsible for rejection in this instance, the authors have created "high-risk" eyes in mice by inducing corneal neovascularization. The authors then examined the fate of orthotopic corneal grafts placed in these beds an...
متن کاملMurine orthotopic corneal transplantation in high-risk eyes. Rejection is dictated primarily by weak rather than strong alloantigens.
PURPOSE Using a model of orthotopic corneal transplantation in which allografts were placed in normal eyes of mice, the authors previously reported that grafts bearing minor H antigens alone are more likely to be rejected (approximately 50%) than are grafts displaying only major histocompatibility (MHC) alloantigens (20%). These studies have been extended to include corneal grafts placed in neo...
متن کاملCutting edge: lymphatic vessels, not blood vessels, primarily mediate immune rejections after transplantation.
The purpose of this study was to determine the relative importance of blood vessels (hemangiogenesis) versus lymphatic vessels (lymphangiogenesis) in mediating immunological responses after transplantation. Using the murine model of corneal transplantation, graft survival was compared in differentially prevascularized and avascular recipient beds. Donor corneas (C57BL/6) were transplanted into ...
متن کاملExposure Stress Induces Reversible Corneal Graft Opacity in Recipients With Herpes Simplex Virus-1 Infections
Purpose Most of the inflammation in murine herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1)-induced stromal keratitis (HSK) is due to exposure stress resulting from loss of corneal nerves and blink reflex. Corneal grafts often fail when placed on corneal beds with a history of HSK. We asked if corneal exposure contributes to the severe pathology of corneal grafts on HSV-1-infected corneal beds. Methods He...
